Nikon Repair & Adventure
Had a terrible moment of shock when I suddenly realized my D300 and SB-900 speedlight were locked in some form of abnormal joining (not like some movie stars that come to mind), but the kind where the damn speelight would not come off the camera. With much chagrin, I packed up the camera and speedlight and sent them on their way back to the mothership of Nikon, where they were originally forged in some weird ceremony involving fire, nipple rings and liquid carbon dioxide.
So a week passed and I wondered my “my precious” was in the process of being divorced from each other. After wading through the Nikon answering service and waiting for 20 minutes, I met a pleasant fellow named “Bhuhsrhumeep?” who told me my camera and speedlight were already in separate rooms for counseling and that things were going well. They let me know the hot-shoe has some damage from something "I" did, but it was covered by a $50 fee that included them cleaning the camera from every possible orifice.
The online system Nikon has for tracking your beloved equipment shows you “kinda” where it is in the process using very generic terms like “being fixed” or “still broken”, but was otherwise helpful. I received the camera and its recently severed appendage packaged so well it would withstand handling by school children.
Everything was as clean as the day I bought it and working like a champ. I am still reticent to put the speedlight onto the camera, but that is probably understandable. Thanks again to studiomlp for his use of a backup camera while mine was on its adventure.

Posted 2 months agoA photographers nightmare!!! At least they packed it like it was going to make a trip around the world.
When I sent my Bowen lights to Calumet for repair, they sent one light back barely wrapped in saran wrap and freely bouncing around in the box. To my obvious delight when I pulled the light out and shook it you could hear the broken rattling parts... They fixed it, but I get a bit nervous with my lights still....
